CV Summary

Mafalda Esteves is a social psychologist and PhD in Psychology at CIS/ISCTE-IUL where she developed a thesis entitled ‘Invisible sexualities: intimate citizenship and psychosocial well-being in bisexuality’ (FCT scholarship). She is currently member of Click: Connecting Families, Educators and Policymakers to improve the Well-being of LGBTQI children through an intersecional approach (2025-2027). In he past she has been a member of European projects such as Colourful Childhood: Empowering LGBTIQ children in vulnerable contexts to combat gender-based violence across Europe (2022-2024), ‘Diversity and Childhood - Changing social attitudes towards gender diversity in children across Europe’ (2019-2021) and ‘INTIMATE: Citizenship, Care and Choice: The Micropolitics of Intimacy in Southern Europe’ (2014-2019) (ERC St Grant) and ‘Diversity and Childhood - Changing social attitudes towards gender diversity in children across Europe’ (2019-2021). She is also a member of the COST Action YouthDMH (Digital Mental Health for Young People) the SexSense network (Comprehensive Sexuality Education – CSE) and SPRinG (European Network for Social Psychologists researching Gender* Topics). Her current research interests include citizenship, health and psychosocial well-being, gender-based violence, sexual and gender diversity, social movements and youth participation, mental health and social support networks, childhood in vulnerable contexts, hate speech, and sexual and reproductive rights.
