Her primary research interests encompass Indian society and social segregation, with a particular emphasis on Dalits and women, as well as on colonialism and postcolonialism in India. She also investigates fieldwork methodology, the intersection of public anthropology and human rights, and the relationship between anthropology and cinema.
Perez is a member of the Council of the European Association for South Asian Studies (EASAS), the Academic Council of the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) and a consultant for the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) of the United Nations
She has served as a consultant for various European committees on India and South Asia and Anthropology. Perez is a member of the editorial board of Portuguese and international scientific journals. Her recent publications in English include, among a variety of articles, the books "A Transdisciplinary Ethnography in India: Women in the Field", co-edited with Lina M.
