Community participation and societal development

Summary of Seminar

Based on the main results of a variety of studies carried out in the last five years on civic participation, NIMBY movements, and sense of community, and more recently on the relationship between symbolic universes and people behaviors (including but not limited to participation), key issues in promoting active citizenship will be discussed. Specifically, both factors that are likely to enhance and to hinder civic engagement and community participation will be highlighted, and the implications for social interventionists, researchers, and policy makers discussed.
