Abstract/Resumo
As sustainability is becoming a common practice in the planning of transport systems and mobility services, the designation and management of gender issues are of paramount importance. TInnGO (Transport Innovation and Gender Observatory) is a European Project aimed at creating a framework and a mechanism for a sustainable game change in European transport through a transformative strategy to achieve a gender and diversity sensitive Smart Mobility. A network of 10 national Hubs has been established: each of them focuses on specific aspects of those topics by building the capacity to generate and apply evidence on issues relating to gender equality and transport. This paper introduces a relevant framework and seeks to explore different perceptions on user mobility experiences based on gender and identify diversified needs and requirements. In this process, focus group analyses were conducted in four different EU cities, where the TInnGO Hubs are located. All the activities took place from November 2019 until February 2020. Regarding the focus groups and interviews, they followed a common (but flexible, according to the Hubs issues to be studied) structure. The goal of these activities was to extract information on current needs, thoughts and feelings related to female mobility experiences, extract information on possible barriers and potential improvements that would assist transport operators in improving transport services to women. Based on this information, a survey was designed to collect information on socioeconomic, personal and operational aspects to serve a gender-oriented transport analysis for all the project hubs. Perceptions and attitudes were analysed towards the topics of mobility, safety and security and sustainability. The attitude of women towards technology and policy solutions that could overcome the identified barriers is explored. Particular focus was given on practices that maximize the comfort, safety and security in Smart Transport for women.
