International Relations Conference debates who remains on the margins of knowledge
"It comes precisely to question who is producing knowledge, how knowledge is produced, who is on the margins or set aside." This is how Ana Mónica Fonseca, director of the Center for International Studies (CEI-Iscte) summarizes the theme of the 19th edition of the Pan-European Conference on International Relations, which brings together around 2000 researchers in Lisbon between the 1st and 4th of September, organized by the European International Studies Association (EISA).
One of the efforts of this edition is to bring to the center of the debate are voices that are normally left out, giving them a "place to speak" and questioning the role of the academic world itself. Artificial intelligence is also a topic of debate, as today it generates plausible academic content, calling into question traditional authorship criteria.
Palestinian Studies highlighted
The program also reserves several sessions for Palestine Studies, an area directed by Giulia Daniele through the Palestine Studies Observatory (OPal): a discipline that is "academic recognized at an international level", but "clearly less known" in Portugal.
By nature Interdisciplinary, Palestine Studies intersects here with areas such as social movements, critical studies of terrorism and international security, a characteristic that, according to the researcher, follows the Center's own history.
