This project addresses the urgent need to reduce the environmental impact of everyday behaviors by bridging the gap between behavioral science research and real-world action. It proposes a novel framework comparing three psychologically informed intervention strategies - boosts, nudges, and hacks - to encourage pro-environmental household behaviors across conscious and automatic levels of cognition. The research combines a systematic review and meta-analysis of existing literature with two waves of experimental studies to test effectiveness, durability, and potential synergy effects of these strategies in realistic settings. Ultimately, the project aims to advance socio-cognitive and environmental research while providing stakeholders with evidence-based guidance for designing effective, ethical, and scalable “green” communication and policy interventions.
