The central purpose of the research is to relate school results with a series of variables characterising the pupils and their families in order to measure their effect on these results. We plan to analyse the results achieved in national 4th, 6th and 9th grade exams considering the effects, on one hand, of the pupils’ sex, place of birth and nationality and, on the other hand, the class, place of birth and nationality of their parents. Subsidiarily, we will identify schools with dissimilar results but very similar student populations in terms of social condition and the national origin of their families, and explore some aspects of the “school effect” (leadership profile, education plan and organisation of classes and periods) on achievement or failure.

The aim of the study is to establish an analytical relationship between education and training policies, school organisation models, types of leadership and educational achievement/failure, analysing the institutional and organisational contexts in basic and secondary education and weighting their impact on the schools’ results (particularly in terms of levels of educational achievement/failure). It will also include an analysis of dropouts as a form of educational failure (although with different contours) or with regard to mechanisms used by schools to deal with it by, namely, referring students to alternative forms of learning.

The objectives of this study were, on the one hand, 1) to identify and characterize the immigrants living in this county through the application of a questionnaire survey to more than 400 individuals / family groups; on the other, 2) the apprehension and analysis of the practices of racism and discrimination against immigrant groups, as well as the contribution of immigrants to the local economy, main problems felt, relations with public and private institutions based in the municipality, etc. in addition to documentary analysis and the collection and analysis of statistical data, interviews were conducted with local institutions, services and NGOs that intervene with immigrant groups.
