Objective The Agentcity vision is: An ambient proactive environment where heterogeneous autonomous and increasingly intelligent systems representing businesses, services and individuals are able to interact with each other in a peer to peer manner and enable flexible and dynamic composition of services. Knowledge, information and service sharing is effectively available to users and organisations. When new pertinent or innovative services are available they are immediately offered to the appropriate user. Services are automatically discovered and integrated at the right level of interaction. Ontology, security, reputation and trust services in the environment should further enrich the range of businesses and private interactions possible between agent peers. Furthermore, the environment should be open to allow new services and systems to be connected and integrated semantically by coming on-line automatically.Objectives:The primary objectives of this project are:(a) to create a realistic, decentralised open environment which enables high level semantic interoperability between systems to support formation of novel, dynamic value constellations,b) to build sufficient knowledge and understanding of dynamic open environments to enable transition to widespread usage in reliable commercial grade systems.The project addresses dynamic value constellations in Four ways:(1) Designing and deploying an open extensible network environment which can support heterogeneous service building blocks composable into new value added service(2) The integration of business services into the environment to support rich interactions(3) The bringing together agent level communication technologies to provide a unified framework for modelling dynamic application services and(4) Demonstration points to show some of the depth and breadth of the world wide network of agent platforms and services.

The main objective and original contribution of this project is the study, design and implementation of intelligent automated measurement systems for the continuous monitoring of parameters considered important for the environment quality. These systems include smart cells (i.e. smart sensors or smart actuators) for some physical quantities with digital processing structures with prediction capabilities. As new intelligent techniques that will be developed within the project it should be underlined:·The sensor fusion and integration that combine the information in a way that removes inconsistencies and presents clearly the best interpretation of readings input from many individual sources.·Neural and neuro-fuzzy information processing that includes linearisation, prediction and the correction of sensor characteristics.Another direction of work will be the establishment of a client-server architecture linked through a computer network for distributed measurement systems. The client performs the continuous monitoring of the electrical signals related to the quantities to be measured and their transmission to the server database. For the water quantities the transmission is via the Global Standard for Mobile telecommunication (GSM) and a Global Position Sensor (GPS) is used for sensors position detection.

FP5 IST-2000-28646, PRIAM, “Platform for real-time Interactive Access to Mega-images” (2001-2003) The project has validated the advantages of the new JPEG-2000 standard in the development of critical and real time applications such as medical and remote sensing applications. These applications require efficient implementation of the (de-)compression algorithms for very large images, interactive tools for data selection and personalisation of the content, as well as cooperative discussions and decisions (including diagnostics for the medical applications). OBJECTIVES To promote the use of JPEG-2000 for visual communications in the field of scientific digital images by a specific parametrization of the standard to very large sized images. To demonstrate the scalability and the versatility of the standard by developing an open platform for getting an interactive, secure and multimodal access to very large sized images through IP connections. A two levels architecture has been proposed, one for session management based on session protocols of the IETF and the other for image communications based on JPEG-2000. To develop dedicated tools for setting real-time connections to large image databases. To validate the developed platform and concepts through two user-oriented trials in the field of remote sensing and medical images exchanges. More information at the European Commission website here.
