Regenerative communities 4All
Description

The project seeks to connect the world of academia (knowledge, research and education) with practitioners/educators in community-led initiatives, in that adult education could benefit greatly from the knowledge gathered and disseminated in academia - and the other way around. It is an example of a cross-sectoral project that explores the potentials of collaboration, adding strength to both sectors.

The priorities selected are ‘improving the availability of high quality learning opportunities for adults’ in that a stronger linkage to the research sector would qualify the adult education sector - if the collaboration would be better organised. Too often, research about ecovillages and community-led initiatives does not reach the people and the projects/ecovillages studied or the people who wish to undertake such projects, through education. Thus creating a crucial information gap. In bridging this gap, adult education will potentially become research based/oriented, which could add positively to the quality and scope of the adult education sector, in a blend of lived experience, research and education. That is the ultimate aim of the project and in this project we explore different pathways to get there.

Challenge

The objectives of the project is therefore:

1) To make research about regenerative communities and community-led initiatives representing the fight against climate change (like ecovillages) visible and available for the adult education sector, through a web platform and an accessible database, gathering and showcasing ecovillage related research and resources.

2) To increase cooperation between researchers and adult educators through a growing and cross-sectoral ‘community of practice’, both nationally and European, in the ecovillage field.

3) To practice cooperation and increase visibility of each of our sectors, aiming at securing knowledge about ‘regenerative communities for all’, the title of the project.

Academic Research Impact

- A web platform for increased visibility, with a comprehensive database of research and a pilot ‘matchmaking service for researchers and ecovillagers’ for research to be developed based on concrete needs. These digital resources seek to improve the competences of educators in accessing academic knowledge and applying it, which is one of the chosen priorities, thus leading to stronger impact in the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) activities ecovillage education is all about.

- The database of research will be a’ state of the art’ project showcasing ecovillage research, both the abundance of knowledge and resources already available, but also identifying gaps.
