Abstract
No último terço de oitocentos, Isaac Conquy Abecassis (1840-1902), sua mulher Helena Nathan Bem Saúde
(1852-1933) e seu pai, Fortunato (1799-1877), o primeiro Abecassis nascido em Tânger a fixar-se em Portugal,
desembarcaram em Lisboa, vindos de Ponta Delgada, no rescaldo da crise da exportação da laranja. A metrópole
coeva desenvolvia-se então para norte segundo traçado do engenheiro de ponts et chaussées Frederico Ressano
Garcia (1847-1911), concebido na fleuma da flanne parisiense. O engenho burguês da terceira geração de
Abecassis em Portugal servia bem o ímpeto progressista que nos desejava livrar do secularismo, na Lisboa da
primeira metade do século XX. Naquela conjuntura de olvido, a casa que o arquiteto Raul Lino (1879-1974)
projetou para Max Bensaúde Abecassis (1881-1969) na rua Castilho, n.º 24, entre 1925 e 1932, é (foi), síntese
pertinaz de uma possibilidade moderna em continuidade com a tradição.
