Abstract
Ao contrário do que vulgarmente se supõe, a ascensão geopolítica dos Estados Unidos foi um processo que durou mais de dois séculos, um processo gradual, que se foi manifestando em diversos momentos da sua história e que se foi sentindo em diversos aspetos da sua existência. Não se pense, assim, que a ascensão dos Estados Unidos à categoria de superpotência mundial pode ser explicável unicamente com recurso aos acontecimentos da segunda Guerra Mundial e da Guerra Fria.
