Abstract
A Questão Agrária Portuguesa preocupou autores de diversas origens desde tempos remotos. O movimento da Reforma Agrária despoletado em 1975, e os legisladores a ele associados, foram herdeiros de uma série de correntes fisiocráticas e mercantilistas, cujas tentativas de resolução dos problemas sociais ligados à terra e à agricultura atravessaram os séculos. Se bem que a sua grande maioria não tenha ultrapassado o contexto teórico e literário, alguns marcos significativos da legislação portuguesa introduziram alterações profundas no panorama agrário e nas relações sociais nos campos portugueses. Resume-se aqui a evolução dos diagnósticos e propostas relativas ao problema agrícola português e as tentativas sucessivas de fixar as populações em meio rural e estabelecer a autossuficiência alimentar do país.
