Abstract
This paper seeks to contribute to a deepening of our knowledge of sociological research in
Portugal, taking the specialized sociology of social classes as the central reference point in
the analytical process. It also seeks to understand, from a diachronic perspective, the
development of the sociology of social classes in the broad context of sociology and the
university system in Portugal. Finally, it analyses the scientific production of the
sociological research on social classes carried out in relation to Portuguese society between
1960 and 2007
