Abstract
O artigo integra uma pesquisa em curso sobre o papel do género na composição do campo das artes visuais portuguesas e nas possibilidades e limites ao sucesso dos percursos profissionais artísticos.
Analisando os números relativos à atividade de uma amostra significativa de galerias, feiras, leilões e prémios de arte em Portugal entre 2012 e 2019, verificou-se uma notória subrepresentação feminina, cuja proporção raramente ultrapassa um terço. Apesar de alguns sinais positivos de mudança nas coortes das artistas mais jovens, os resultados evidenciam que as mulheres ocupam, relativamente aos homens, posições periféricas de reconhecimento e legitimação no campo.
Conclui-se, assim, que poderão também enfrentar maiores dificuldades no acesso e desenvolvimento das suas carreiras profissionais.
