Information management depends on digital support and processing due to increasing volume, complexity, and speed of data creation. Archaeological knowledge and geoinformation are stored in different data records that need to be standardised for being used together and in an efficient manner. This paper considers the contribution of knowledge-based models for representing distinct archaeological features together with geo-spatial parameters. Using a knowledge-based model, we propose that archaeological information can be linked with geographic data to facilitate location, access, interoperability, and reusability of the data – making it FAIR. In this way, data can be used for a variety of purposes, such as improving automated recognition approaches, as well as analysis, management, and communication of existing knowledge.
