Abstract
Over the past decade, there has been a significant rise in individuals identifying as bisexual, reflecting a shift in perceptions of sexual and gender identity in Western societies. In Southern Europe, however, the unique historical and sociocultural context has meant that challenges faced by bisexual individuals have been underexplored. This study, grounded in the psychology of critical sexualities, investigates how bisexual people navigate their identity and the impact of binegativity in intimate relationships. The bisexual participants, aged 22–41, of all genders, were resident in Portugal. Sixteen semi-structured interviews were conducted in Portugal and analyzed through abductive thematic analysis. The findings highlight a regime of in/visibility and the complexity of relationships within this population, with implications for clinical practice, community intervention, and policy development.
