Abstract/Resumo
GEN and the Transition Network have a decades-long record of promoting, among Community-based Initiatives for Sustainability Transition (CBIs), the emergence of common narratives and strategic frames, as well as technology transfer and resource mobilization from public, private and third sector donors. However, the involvement of these networks in policy-making is still limited and restricted to the local level, with the exception of national Ecovillage development programs in Western Africa and a pilot program in the Spanish region of Navarra. Research in the field has been underlining the importante of deepening the involvement of CBIs in policy-making, so as to materialize their potential as agents of structural transformation. Translocal networks are a key element in this process.
This presentation points out key lessons that translocal CBI networks can learn from the involvement of the Brazilian Solidarity Economy Forums in policy-making and implementation. It is based on fieldwork carried out in Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Rio Grande do Sul and Ceará between 2006 and 2017.
