Abstract
The textile industry, one of the most resource-intensive and socially complex global
sectors, faces increasing pressure to reconcile economic growth with environmental
stewardship and social equity. Accounting for up to 10% of global carbon emissions and
widespread labor inequities, the sector exemplifies the urgency of embedding
sustainability into global supply chains (SCs)(Giacomin & Pacca 2024). Traditionally
driven by linear “take–make–waste” production and fast-fashion logics, textile
operations are now transitioning toward circular, ethical, and digitally intelligent systems
of production.
This paper explores how Industry 5.0 (I5.0) technologies, particularly Artificial
Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain, can enable a shift from
linear, cost-driven operations toward human-centric, circular, and ethical production
ecosystems. It addresses the following research question:
• How does digital transformation under I5.0 principles reshape the Triple
Bottom Line (TBL) in global textile?
• what pathways enable the integration of sustainability within human-centric
digital ecosystems?
By answering these questions, the paper contributes to operations management
debates on the convergence of digitalisation, sustainability, and organizational
transformation in manufacturing and SCs.
