How to promote dietary change in collective meal contexts? A systematic review of the literature

Abstract
Background and aims. The present systematic review is part of a larger project aiming to promote transitions towards healthier and more sustainable food consumption in collective meal contexts with children and young people, specifically in the school context. The review aims to map and classify determinants of dietary change in collective meal contexts considering diverse settings, interventions, target groups, and target behaviors. Methods. A systematic review using PRISMA guidelines was conducted in a set of databases encompassing peer-reviewed publications from multiple scientific disciplines. Articles considered for inclusion were full-text papers in English on empirical (quantitative or qualitative) studies on food consumption and/or provision in collective meal contexts. Current stage of work. The review is currently in progress. A total of 34429 articles were found, 10353 were retained after removal of duplicates, and 370 were retained after title and abstract screening, which are currently being subjected to full-text screening. Expected Results. The primary outcome is a list of evidence-based strategies for promoting dietary change in collective meal contexts. The secondary outcome is a systematization of these strategies according to the Behavior Change Technique Taxonomy. Implications. The present review will help inform future research and interventions on how to encourage consumers and empower providers in collective meal-contexts to shift to healthier and more sustainable meals.
