Abstract
This special issue of Annals of Human Biology arises from the 56th annual symposium of the Society for the Study of Human Biology (SSHB) held in Lisbon, Portugal from 2-5 September 2015. The SSHB partnered with the Centre for Research in Anthropology (CRIA-ISCTE – Lisbon University Institute) and the Research Centre for Anthropology and Health (CIAS – University of Coimbra, Portugal) to bring
together a large interdisciplinary team of researchers, academics, practitioners, and community leaders. This symposium encouraged a very productive exchange of knowledge and discussion on the effects of poverty on human biological outcomes.
