Neste artigo são revelados os principais resultados de uma pesquisa de carácter exploratório sobre os discursos turísticos relativos às ilhas de Santiago e São Vicente (Cabo Verde). De acordo com o primeiro plano de marketing do turismo deste país, estes territórios deveriam ser promovidos como “ilhas de essência”. Considerando que esta promoção poderia contribuir para amplificar a estereotipia sobre os habitantes destas ilhas, regra geral atrelada a discursos bairristas que circulam no país, são aqui recenseados e analisados dois tipos de materiais. Em primeiro lugar, exponho o que foi mostrado, e os principais traços do que foi dito, em visitas guiadas realizadas nestas ilhas, que indiciam duas modalidades de construção da tropicalidade insular cabo-verdiana. Em segundo lugar, analiso narrativas sobre estas ilhas patentes em guias turísticos impressos que denotam a tendência de dissecação da crioulidade e a essencialização das suas componentes em cada uma destas ilhas. ____ The present paper discloses the chief results of an exploratory survey on touristic discourses on the islands of Santiago and São Vicente (Cape Verde). In accordance with the country’s first tourism marketing plan, these territories should be promoted as “islands of essence”. Considering that this promotion might contribute to amplifying stereotypes regarding the islands’ inhabitants, usually working in tandem with parochial discourses circulating in the country, we gather and analyse two types of materials in this paper. Firstly, I expose what we were shown during guided tours on these islands, and the chief traits of what was said, which indicate two modalities of construction of the Cape Verdean insular tropicality. Secondly, I analyse the narratives about these islands found in tourist guidebooks, which evince the tendency to dissection of the Cape Verdean Creole identity and to essentialisation of its components in each of these islands
