Abstract
Considered a modern branch of Operational Research (OR), Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) takes into account that decision-making processes are complex and influenced by several decision makers with different perceptions and value systems, stressing the limits of objectivity and considering the possibility that some problems may not have an optimal solution. This study aims to consider and share different points of view regarding the epistemological stance of this evolving field of research, promoting a deeper discussion among those who use MCDA. By highlighting some of the main characteristics of MCDA and contributing to its diffusion, it is hoped that this discussion will be a starting point to forecast potential developments in the field.
