Abstract/Resumo
This introduction provides an overview of the edited volume The everydayness of Cities in transition: Micro Approaches to material and Social Dimensions of Change that explores urban ethnography across different global contexts. Through ethnographic narratives, the authors bring to life the effects of post-colonial and post-socialist changes, displacement, migration, ethnicity, tourism, resistance, gentrification, urban transformation, urban renewal, emphasizing the importance of narrative perspectives in understanding the material and immaterial complexities of urban spaces. Central to the book is the examination of how individuals and communities navigate and shape their urban environments amidst socio-political and economic upheavals. The diverse ethnographic experiences offer insights into the performative and affective dimensions of urban life, highlighting the role of humanistic approaches in bridging the gap between academic research and the lived experiences of urban dwellers. By focusing on micro-level interactions and practices, the book challenges traditional urban analysis, advocating for a deeper engagement with the everyday life of cities. This approach not only enriches our under-standing of urban phenomena but also underscores the transformative poten-tial of ethnography in capturing the nuances of urban life
