Abstract
The People’s Republic of China has produced an international discourse since the revolution in 1949. However, the main event the Chinese international discourse disseminated globally was the Bandung Conference in 1955. Since then, China has maintained an international discourse, adapting it to the Chinese foreign policy goals that progressively became global. The Belt & Road Initiative is not an exception to this trend of the Chinese International Policy. In this chapter, we analyse how the discourse delivered by the Chinese authorities concerning the Belt & Road Initiative contributes to the globalization of the Chinese international discourse. Besides the literature revision, we analysed how Chinese political discourse became international and started to go global. First, we look at how Chinese political, scientific, and law discourses evolved, finding general trends. Then we applied the discourse analysis to official Chinese international speeches, mainly analysing President Xi Jinping’s speeches and how the Chinese editors of these speeches followed the organization. Using this methodology, we conclude that the Belt & Road Initiative contributes profoundly to the globalization of Chinese discourse and the proposal of globalization with Chinese characteristics.
