When Michel Foucault covered the Iranian Revolution of 1979 for Corriere della Sera and the Nouvel Observateur , he called it a phenomenon of "political spirituality." At the time, he stated that Khomeini was not inspired by political or economic ideals, but by the collective will to transform humanity and the world. The Kordad uprising against the West and modernity, the banners of Pahlavi's monarchy, was the great illusion of the twentieth century. Forty-seven years later, the Pahlavi’s’ Monarchical Movement is one of the leading opposers to the theocratic regime. The same Western values, Persian culture, and religion that Khomeini once used to overthrow the Shah are now the key points against the Ayatollah’s government.
