Álvaro Dias is a tenured associate professor at ISCTE-IUL, with extensive experience in tourism, marketing, and entrepreneurship, dating back to 1995. In addition to his academic work, he has provided specialized consulting services to a wide range of organizations, including government agencies such as IAPMEI, GNR, and ACT, as well as numerous private companies.
Academically, he holds two doctorates with distinction (cum laude), specializing in Management (with a focus on Marketing) and Tourism. His academic background also includes a master’s degree in Strategy, an MBA, a bachelor’s degree in Management, and postgraduate studies in E-business.
He led the Department of Economics and Business Sciences at UAL, where he was responsible for coordinating various degree programs, from the bachelor’s to the doctoral level. He also directed master’s and bachelor’s programs in Marketing and co-directed the bachelor’s program in Management at ISG. He currently coordinates the Master’s in Hospitality and Tourism at ISCTE-IUL and founded the Living Lab for Tourism and Services, which he continues to coordinate. His contributions to research infrastructure include founding two research centers and coordinating three.
Professor Dias has published 30 books and over 250 articles indexed in Scopus. His significant contributions have been recognized through prestigious awards, including the GNR D. Nuno Álvares Pereira Medal of Merit and a Diploma of Honor in 2022. He was also awarded research prizes from the Chair of Smart Tourism of the Regional Government of Andalusia and the University of Seville in 2021 and 2023.
He has successfully supervised two postdoctoral researchers, 20 doctoral students, and 300 master’s students. His international reach in teaching and research includes engagements in Angola, Brazil, Bolivia, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Spain, Poland, Romania, and Finland.
