Sónia Bernardo Correia holds a bachelor’s degree in management (ISEG), a postgraduate qualification in Heritage and Cultural Projects, and an MA and PhD in Sociology (Iscte). She began her career in management consultancy and continues to collaborate in the management of a design agency. She is an Associate Researcher at CIES-Iscte and has participated as a researcher in several national and European-funded projects. Her research interests focus on gender inequalities, artistic careers, biographical research and the sociology of art, with particular attention to mechanisms of visibility and recognition in cultural fields. Building on previous project experience, she has also developed research interests in youth and childhood, especially around research ethics, data privacy and public policies affecting these groups. Her PhD thesis titled "Centers and Peripheries of Gender: Professional Trajectories of Portuguese Women Visual Artists", documented mechanisms of invisibility affecting women artists in Portugal and linked gendered patterns of recognition to the institutional arrangements and gatekeeping processes that shape the field.
