CV Summary

I am a sociologist researching migration. I am currently doing my PhD at ISCTE–Instituto Universitário de Lisboa and Maastricht University, funded by FCT (2022.11982.BD).

My doctoral research examines the relationship between emigration and development in Portugal, focusing on how migration expands people’s capabilities, how this translates into social and economic remittances, and how emigration and return, in turn, reshape development at the individual, community, and regional levels. I am particularly interested in keeping sociological theory and migration studies in close dialogue.

I also have a particular interest in the intersection of education and migration, which I explored in my master’s thesis and continue to work on. I am currently involved in DIV_EQUAL – Pathways to Success for Immigrant Students in Portuguese Schools: Diversity and Equality.

I enjoy discussing my work and related topics, so if you’d like to chat, feel free to get in touch: afcco1@iscte-iul.pt
