Sara Elisabete Vigário Galvão The relationship between language and memory is widely acknowledged in the literature, highlighting that the use of temporal and spatial markers supports the organization and retrieval of episodic memories. Between the ages of 3 and 5, the development of language and episodic memory undergoes significant changes: at 3 years, rudimentary narrative and mnemonic abilities emerge; at 4 years, there is increased use of temporal and spatial references; and by 5 years, narratives and event descriptions become more precise and detailed.Although well-documented, this relationship lacks studies exploring the qualities of episodic representations—recollective and familiarity-based memories—and their associations with gains in temporal and spatial language.This study aims to investigate, using a correlational approach, the relationship between temporal and spatial language and the emergence of episodic memories in children aged 3 to 5 years.
