Skilled migration of health professionals in Portugal and Spain: a comparative study on the conditions of integration into the host society
Researcher
"The aim of this research project is to carry out a comparative study of highly skilled migration made up of health professionals who reside in Portugal and Spain. Specifically, we will analyze migratory processes of health professionals coming from non-EU countries and who practice their profession in Spain and Portugal, with emphasis on the processes of inclusion and integration into the host society. The research will use a combination of several techniques and methods to study this issue, taking into account the gender perspective: analysis of secondary data (legislative and labor frameworks, official statistics, websites of medical societies and professional associations), in-depth interviews, focus groups and semi-structured interviews. In view of the limited research available to examine the processes of socio-professional integration of highly skilled migrants into the societies of destination, studies moving in this direction are relevant and useful. Thus, this research project will contribute to the knowledge of skilled migration and its impact on the European level from a sociological, economic and political point of view."
