Filipa R. Prudêncio is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Science and Information Technology (DCTI) at ISCTE-IUL. She is a Senior Researcher at the Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) and a member of the international Simons Collaboration on Extreme Wave Phenomena Based on Symmetries project.

She obtained her Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, in Telecommunications, from Instituto Superior Técnico and IT, in 2014. She previously was as a Senior Researcher in the Simons Collaboration project, NY (USA), and was also a visiting researcher at the META Group, KU Leuven. She was an Invited Assistant Professor at DCTI-ISCTE from 2014–2024.

She is currently the Coordinator of the international project SIMONS II – IT/ISCTE and supervises two Ph.D. students and one postdoctoral researcher. She was co-Principal Investigator of the FCT-funded project Toposystem and a team member in several additional international and national projects. She is the First Author of 17 papers published in international scientific journals ranked within the highest quartile in SJR Ranking (Nanophtonics 6.6, Physical Review Letters 9.0, Communication Physics 5.8) and has authored 46 papers presented at scientific conferences.

She is the Sub-Director of the Bachelor Degree in Computer Science and Business Management (LIGE, LIGE-PL), at ISCTE and is responsible for the high-performance student-athletes at ISTA. She previously coordinated the master’s curricular unit Cloud Systems and Technologies (2014-2015,2015-2016) and the bachelor’s curricular unit Electricity and Mechanics (2023-2024,2024-2025), at ISCTE.

She is the Chair of WIRS (Women in Radio Science) and Vice-President of Commission B of the national URSI-ANACOM committee. She has experience as chair (Cost Action MP1214) and member of local conference committees, and as a member of international conference committees (EuCAP, URSI-GASS, AT-RASC, Metamaterials Metamorphose Conferences) and as Award Chair Person. She has been a reviewer for international scientific journals and conferences, and on Ph.D. thesis evaluation panels. She was an Associate Editor (OQE, OMEx) and Guest Editor for scientific journals.

She received the ANACOM-URSI 2023 Award, the IST Best Ph.D. Thesis Award, and the Best Student Paper Award at the URSI Conference in 2015.
