Helena holds a PhD in Accounting and Finance from Lancaster University, UK. She is Professor of Accounting at ISCTE-IUL Business School in Lisbon. She has previously worked at Bayes (formerly Cass) Business School, London. She was a Fulbright Research Scholar at University of Miami, USA, and a visiting scholar at Sydney University, Australia. Her research interests are on international accounting, voluntary disclosure, financial reporting quality and capital markets. Helena participates actively in international organizations; she has been in the Management Committee and Scientific Committee of the European Accounting Association, and she is a member of the academic research network of EFRAG - European Financial Reporting Advisory Group. She publishes academic articles in top journals such as Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, European Accounting Review, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting; International Journal of Accounting; and Journal of Business Ethics. Helena sits in the editorial board of the European Accounting Review, Accounting in Europe, and Accounting and Business Research. She own several prestigious awards such as best European PhD thesis in Management, best paper awards in international conferences, and has been award a Fulbright Scholarship by the US Government.
