Américo Rio is a Visiting Professor at NovaIMS/UNL in the areas of Web and Mobile Development, where he currently teaches two curricular units (Web Technologies and Applications, and Mobile Application Development) as coordinator, and Research Methodologies as a lecturer (master's degrees). He was a visiting assistant from 2015/16 until 2022/23 at the same institution. From 2006 to 2020 he was a guest assistant at ISCTE-IUL, where he taught Web Development in 2021 and Mobile Applications in the previous three years. He was a lecturer at the European University from 2009 to July 2016, in the areas of Web Application Development and Mobile Development, Game Development, Design, Class Programming.
In the industry, he was a founding partner of Itcode. Itcode specializes in custom software development for web, mobile, desktop and social networks. Over the last (more than) 20 years, he has developed and managed numerous projects for national and international companies, in the areas of web, mobile, desktop and social media applications, both at Itcode and at other companies where he has previously worked. Notable projects: Movermais - an application that records the calories consumed during exercise and ingested through food, giving a balance. Zib - An addictive stock market game online learning (architecture and lead developer) -Banco Best, Inquérito PDA - Médicos do Mundo / UNL, ZeroDez (motorPress group), Clix (Backoffice Channels), Carteira.pt, SaldoPositivo 1st version (CGD), Anticontrafacao (INPI, GRN, PSP, ASAE, AT, PJ) and other applications for Medis, Hyundai, Roff, CTT, CCB, Navigator.
He holds a PhD in Information Sciences and Technologies (ISCTE), a Master's degree in Computer Engineering (FCT/UNL), and a degree in Physics Engineering (FCT/UNL), as well as a postgraduate degree in Entrepreneurship and Business Creation (INDEG /ISCTE) and a postgraduate degree in Computer Engineering (FCT/UNL) and a specialization course in Industrial Electrolysis (IST). He also holds a specialist degree in Computer Engineering from the European University.
His interests are: development of web applications and games, mobile and other platforms, interfaces with hardware and the internet of things, software development processes and application quality, data science and LLMs, data/text/web mining, big data, business intelligence and data warehousing.
