She began teaching at ISCTE-IUL as a Guest Assistant Professor in 2001, became an Assistant Professor in 2003, and was appointed Associate Professor in 2012. During this period, she taught primarily in the five-year Architecture programme at ISCTE, particularly the courses of Urban Design, Architecture, Architectural Design, and Final Architectural Project, as well as, on occasion, Theory of Contemporary Urban Design, Urbanism Laboratory, and Architectural Design Seminars. She also contributed to the 7th edition of the Master’s Degree in Urban Design.
Since 2016, she has taught in the PhD Programme in Architecture of Contemporary Metropolitan Territories. From 2016 to 2019, she served as Deputy Head of the Department of Architecture and Urbanism at the institute.
She was a researcher at CEUA – Centre for Urbanism and Architecture Studies at the Instituto Superior de Ciências do Trabalho e da Empresa, and at CIES – Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology at the same institution. She is currently an Integrated Researcher at ISTAR – Information Sciences, Technologies and Architecture Research Center.
Her main research interests focus on Urban Design, Urban History, Public Space, and Mathematical Simulation Models of Urban Form. Her current research focuses on methodologies for the analysis of public space.
Within the Portuguese urban planning context, there are principles and approaches to city-making that should be analysed from a historical and interdisciplinary perspective. Her research seeks to understand urban design as a process closely connected to practice and grounded in theory, while focusing on the history and society that shape the city and its public spaces.
In relation to her main research interests, she has authored and co-authored several publications, including 14 articles in indexed peer-reviewed journals, 35 papers published in conference proceedings, and 7 book chapters. Throughout her professional activities, she has collaborated with more than 30 co-authors on scientific publications.
She was awarded a research grant from FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology, under the Praxis XXI Programme, to undertake her master’s dissertation, whose research focused on the study of Islamic cities. She also received a grant from the Instituto Camões under the Lusitânia Programme to support participation in international conferences.
