I am a Biopsychologist, with a background in Educational Psychology (Licenciatura) and Ethology (MSc) and I hold a PhD in Anthropology - AnthropoBiology. I have since the beginning of my academic career pursuid the study of expressive behavior and emotion in evolutionary and developmental perspectives. My former projects included the study of emotion understanding in adolescents and adults, facial expression in human children, chimpanzees, bonobos and gorillas, welfare in captive animals, ape personality, individuality in behavior, and the relation between facial behavior and popularity in children. My research currently comprises mostly behavioral and physiological measures, and focuses empathy in adolescents, appraisal of facial expressions, the development of facial expressions in children and their recognition by adults, the development of children?s empathy towards animals, the relationship between attachment and facial expression. I have taught many different university courses in Psychology and Biology since 2001, and many of these have been in interdisciplinary domains of psychology, biology and anthropology.
