Doctorate professor and senior researcher specializing in the intersection between architecture and biomimetic design (2010), with a particular focus on the interactions between humans, machines, and nature, and on AI/XR technologies. He is currently an Integrated Researcher at ISTAR. He is also affiliated with ISTAR as a host institution for a project funded by FCT titled “Generative Architectural Design: Promoting Human-Biome Interaction through Traditional Approaches and Emerging Technologies”, where he acts as Principal Investigator. This project aims to explore the potential of generative design in creating adaptive architectural solutions that promote symbiosis between humans and the biome.
Recently, he served as a Co-Principal Investigator at the University of Coimbra, coordinating the technological development for the FCT funded project 'Santa Cruz 1834', based at the Center for Social Studies (CES-UC) and at the Department of Architecture of the University of Coimbra (DARQ-FCTUC). Prior to this, he was an Assistant Professor at the same university, mentoring PhD and master’s students from the Architecture and Computer Science departments. He holds a PhD in Architecture from UIC Barcelona and two master’s degrees: one in the World History of Architecture, Urbanism, and Industrial Design, and the other in Bio-digital Architecture and Genetics.
His professional experience includes Hongik University in Seoul, L’École Nationale Supérieure D’Architecture de Paris - La Villette, and the Faculty of Architecture and Design at the University of São Paulo. He has contributed to numerous publications and presented his research at international conferences. Additionally, he has participated in and won international competitions in architectural design, art, and performance, exploring digital fabrication and computational design.
