Rodrigo Simões is currently a PhD student at Iscte-IUL and a Research Assistant at ISTAR-IUL. He is an invited assistant professor at Iscte-IUL, teaching the Programming and Big Data Processing courses in the Data Science Degree program. The research plan for his PhD consists of applying software language engineering to urban management/smart city platforms. He is a fellow of the EUROSTIT project, where he will develop a chatbot for consulting information from the RESETTING Smart Tourism Tools and Initiatives observatory. He was a fellow of the European RESETTING project for the digital transformation of tourism. Data visualization was the topic of his master's thesis, focusing on the development of a digital platform for visualizing geo-temporal crowding data, with the aim of helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the tourism sector to mitigate the effects of overtourism. In addition, the platform can be used by municipal authorities for smart city management. Outside of academia, he worked in the software industry for over 3 years as a programmer, contributing to the development and maintenance of several applications for the Agência para a Modernização Administrativa (AMA).
