This study is divided into four parts. Its objectives are to bring together and organise available information on the gypsy community, to itemise and describe measures which have been adopted for this community, to understand the social representations made of this sector of the population in the media, and to acquire greater in-depth knowledge of the factors which influence its exclusion from, or inclusion in, Portuguese society.
