Europe faces a multifaceted housing crisis marked by unaffordability, lack of sustainability, and social exclusion. This project proposes Community-Led Housing (CLH) – encompassing models like cooperatives, ecovillages, and community land trusts – as an innovative, democratic solution. Rooted in the principles of the Social Solidarity Economy (SSE) and aligned with the EU's Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) programme objectives, particularly Priority 1, this initiative aims to empower citizens and bridge the gap between grassroots housing solutions and policy making. Leveraging a Transformative Social Innovation (TSI) framework driven by Socio-Environmental Justice (SEJ) values and gender mainstreaming, the project will engage diverse target groups: citizens, existing CLIs, civil society organizations, policymakers, and the general public, with specific attention to women and non-binary persons. Through a mix of pan-European and national activities – including deep debates, collective scenario planning, knowledge exchange events (conferences, webinars, trainings), and participatory communication campaigns – the project will foster informed dialogue and co-create policy recommendations. Expected short-term impacts include increased awareness of CLH, empowered citizens contributing to housing debates, strengthened networks, and tangible outputs like policy briefs and best practice guides. Medium-term goals involve influencing housing policies towards greater support for CLH and fostering the growth of the CLH movement. The long-term ambition is to contribute to systemic change in the European housing sector, promoting models that prioritize affordability, sustainability, and inclusivity, thereby reducing inequalities and strengthening democratic participation in shaping Europe's housing future.
