The proposed post-doctoral research aims to a cross-national and longitudinal analysis of the supply (the parties’ manifestos and the political elite) and demand side (the voters’ preferences) of electoral competition under the theoretical framework of the “low stimulus elections” and in particular of the second order election model in Greece, Portugal and Germany. The next European Parliament Election of 2014 will be at the core of my analysis. The research is planned to be carried out in Portugal (CIES – IUL Centro de Investigação e Estudos de Sociologia, Instituto Universitário de Lisboa) and in Germany (Mannheim Centre for European Social Research -MZES, University of Mannheim).
