Abstract
João Favila Menezes nasceu em Coimbra, estudou e viveu no Porto e sobretudo em Lisboa, mas as suas origens remontam à ilha da Madeira, a sudoeste da costa continental portuguesa, onde o clima subtropical e a humidade das montanhas favorece o crescimento de uma vegetação exuberante. O encargo do projecto de uma moradia unifamiliar foi-lhe entregue por um casal com dois filhos pequenos, que vivia em Campolide e desejava fazer a sua residência num lote na tranquila Travessa de São Caetano, junto à Rua Silva Carvalho – uma das ruas principais do bairro residencial de Campo de Ourique. Invertendo o que ocorria no edifício existente, o projecto fez com que os principais compartimentos interiores passassem a voltar-se para um espaço até então desconsiderado: o logradouro. Este, passou a ser o lugar principal da casa.
