Abstract
The admiration and privilege of friendship with the Architect Fernão Simões de Carvalho gave me the unique and incredible opportunity to propose him (at the age of 89), to develop a project to rethinking C.T.T. Neighbourhood, built-in Luanda in 1968. The Urban Plan was designed as a modern residential unit, entirely based on Le Corbusier's 7V system hierarchy, with whom Carvalho had collaborated before going to Luanda. However, the modern Angolan process was interrupted in 1974, and this Neighbourhood was never finished. The main target of presenting this process at an International Congress , led us to start in June 2018 a "Work in Progress" to debate the surprising modernity of Africa and reflect on the lack of information. We want to assess the resilience of this Neighbourhood, including testing and proposing ways to prolong its life by updating the functional organization of the apartments, by renewing the facilities and public spaces of the residential system. This challenge aims to raise awareness of the urgent need to safeguard Angola's modern heritage, relying on the mastery of Carvalho, one of the leading responsible of Luanda's transformation into an urban laboratory for modernity experimentation.
