Abstract
Esta investigação avalia a possibilidade de construção em terra na ilha de São Miguel, com o objetivo de combater
o impacto ambiental e paisagístico provocado pela exploração de pedra e pozolana, utilizada para a fabricação
de cimento. Pretende-se promover técnicas construtivas sustentáveis, com recurso a terra local e promover a
conservação do património arquitetónico, com argamassas tradicionais compostas de terras argilosas,
compatíveis com as construções históricas dos Açores. Analisa-se a viabilidade das terras açorianas para
construção, em particular a qualidade das argilas.
