Abstract
Filho de João José Barbosa du Bocage e de Josefa Teresa Ferreira Pestana, irmã de José Ferreira Pestana, governador civil, deputado, par do Reino, Ministro, Professor de Matemática na Universidade de Coimbra e Governador da Índia. Primo em segundo grau do popular poeta Manuel Maria Barbosa du Bocage, ambos descendentes do francês Gil Hedois du Bocage, que chegou a Lisboa em 1704 na esquadra francesa que apoiou Portugal na guerra contra a Espanha.
