(English) Between tradition and modernity: The Kilomètre 47 panel by Maria Helena Vieira da Silva

Este artigo versa sobre o painel de azulejos Kilomètre 47, elaborado por Maria Helena Vieira da Silva em 1943, durante seu exílio no Rio de Janeiro. Encomendado para compor o refeitório da Universidade Rural, criada na ditadura estado-novista, o painel é composto por oito quadros que glorificam o trabalho e a fertilidade do campo. Observado à luz do conceito de sintoma, na acepção de Georges Didi-Huberman, o ensaio objetiva examinar as interlocuções do imaginário da arte não-erudita, brasileira e lusitana, para a caracterização das personagens presentes no painel, sobretudo agricultores e pescadores, valendo-se da análise, pelo método exploratório, da documentação pertencente à Fundação Arpad Szenes - Vieira da Silva, em Lisboa, e ao Comité Arpad Szenes - Vieira da Silva, em Paris, além da seleção de iconografia coletada em publicações referenciais sobre a cultura popular lusitana. Com base no processamento deste arcabouço, não seria impertinente afirmar que Kilomètre 47 expurga as angústias de um desterro forçado, exaltando o encontro da artista com suas memórias e valores coletivos, em uma edificação que dialoga com a tradição e com a modernidade. ____ This article is about the Kilomètre 47 tile panel, created by Maria Helena Vieira da Silva in 1943, during her exile in Rio de Janeiro. Commissioned to compose the refectory of the Rural University, created during the Estado Novo dictatorship, the panel is composed of eight parts that glorify the work and fertility of the countryside. Observed in the light of the concept of symptom, in the sense of Georges Didi-Huberman, the essay aims to examine the interlocutions of the imaginary of non-erudite, Brazilian and Portuguese art, for the characterization of the characters present in the panel, especially farmers and fishermen, taking into account the analysis, through the exploratory method, of the documentation belonging to the Fundação Arpad Szenes - Vieira da Silva, in Lisbon, and to the Comité Arpad Szenes - Vieira da Silva, in Paris, in addition to the selection of iconography collected in reference publications on Portuguese popular culture . Based on the processing of this framework, it would not be impertinent to state that Kilomètre 47 purges the anguish of a forced exile, exalting the artist's encounter with her memories and collective values, in a building that dialogues with tradition and modernity.
