Abstract
Os possíveis significados da palavra “Teorias”; evolução destes significados e circunstâncias históricas desta evolução; motivos do renovado interesse pelas “teorias” no meio do século XX; na base desta reconstrução histórica, reflexões sobre as funções e potencialidades das teorias no Pós-Segunda Guerra Mundial, ligadas à valorização das potencialidades individuais na acção social. Implicações destas reflexões para o ensino.
O ensaio também toma posição em relação a um documento elaborado por estudantes sobre as suas expectativas em relação ao ensino das teorias.
É completado por alguns exemplos de representações gráficas de modelos teóricos.
