Abstract/Resumo
This chapter from the Open Social Psychology book covers the heat priming-hostile perception effect, i.e., the idea that exposure to temperature-related words can shape how people judge others' behavior. It opens with the classic DeWall & Bushman (2009) study, which used a scrambled-sentence priming task to show that participants primed with heat-related words rated an ambiguous man as more hostile than those primed with cold or neutral words. It then presents two replication attempts with larger samples, which conclude that the effect could not be replicated and that a meta-analysis combining all the studies found it non-significant, suggesting the original finding is likely too weak to be meaningful.
