Abstract
O artigo debruça-se sobre a atividade das organizações da sociedade civil na área da prevenção das infeções sexualmente transmissíveis junto das populações mais vulneráveis, em Portugal, de modo a analisar como se relacionam com elas e como concebem as ações de prevenção e o apoio social que lhes dirigem. A população dos trabalhadores do sexo apresenta uma elevada prevalência da infeção VIH/sida, que contrasta com o uso reportado de meios de prevenção e de recurso ao diagnóstico. A discrepância verificada poderá indicar uma adesão formal, mas não necessariamente real, a uma retórica socialmente valorizada de prevenção.
