The energy transition has gained momentum with the current energy insecurity. Renewable energy investments, such as wind and solar, have become essential for electricity generation. However, assessments are often done from a national perspective, capturing global benefits but ignoring local impacts and other dimensions of sustainability. This paper looks to address this gap, by focusing on externalities associated to wind power infrastructure that tend to affect local communities in the Centro Region of Portugal. The study proposes the use of Hedonic Valuation Methods (HVM) to determine how an environmental externality, decurrent from the presence of wind power infrastructure, such as visual impact, that is not easily measurable due to its subjectivity, affects housing prices. Obtained results show that visual impact may negatively affect housing prices, as they tend to decrease near wind power and vice-versa. Therefore, this study contributes towards the consideration of non-market costs or benefits from wind and solar power projects, that affect the environment and communities at local level. The results may serve policymakers to develop targeted strategies to address externalities that adversely affect local communities and promote benefits across sustainability dimensions
