Bruno Frutuoso Costa is a PhD candidate in Communication Sciences at the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL) and a visiting researcher at the School of Journalism, Media, and Culture (JOMEC), Cardiff University. Bruno is vice president of the Student Union of Pius XII University College (UECUP—Colégio Universitário Pio XII) and president of the Pius XII Cultural and Religious Center. In 2024, he specialized in data analysis in social sciences at ISCTE-IUL. As a scholarship holder for doctoral research from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) at CIES-Iscte, Bruno is developing his project “Aversion2agony: A cross-national comparative analysis of journalistic mediation of euthanasia in Portugal and the United Kingdom” (Reference 2023.04877. BD; DOI https://doi.org/10.54499/2023.04877.BD; Website https://aversion2agony.com/). In 2021, he conducted a pioneering study in Portugal on the phenomenon of digital and in-person violence against women journalists, which was published in a book by Media XXI. His main areas of research include journalism, media, and gender studies, focusing on topics such as public space and news production, participation and social media, digital platforms and sociability, gender violence and hate speech, as well as the mediation of death and mourning rituals.
